Palliative care and end of life care
Palliative care is not just for people diagnosed with terminal cancer, but any terminal condition. It’s also for people who have a complex illness and need their symptoms controlled by experienced hands.
Palliative care as all nursing care, aims to treat or manage pain and other physical symptoms, along with any psychological, social or spiritual needs. Treatment will involve medicines, therapies, and any other support that specialist teams believe will help the resident, along with respect for religious needs and requirements. Close liaison with families and friends is imperative to ensure that this is a dignified and respectful process.
Whilst this is a very upsetting time, we deliver assurance that residents will be comfortable, well supported and assisted by whatever medication is appropriate in the last days of life. We work very closely during this time with GP’s, specialist nurses and healthcare professionals to ensure that the experience for both a resident and their family is as positive as possible, no matter what. We provide loving care, support and reliable information through all stages of life and always with a comforting hand to hold.
